3: Diagnostic X-Ray ProductionThe x-ray unit consists of a closed circuit with four main criteria:1. It must have enough power to eventually produce x-rays.2. It must have selections where the power can be increased or decreased as necessary.3. The power must travel in the same direction through the x-ray tube.4. There must be a way to produce free electrons and with enough energy to produce x-rays3
اسلاید 4: The main component in this x-ray circuit is the x-ray tube itself, and this is the structure that actually produces the x-raysThe x-ray tube contains two major components: a cathode and an anode. The cathode is a thin tungsten wire that is coiled and placed in a focusing cup. When it is heated, it produces a cloud of electrons. This is called thermionic emission.4When the exposure switch is closed the electrons are drawn across to the anode (tungsten plate) by electromagnetic force, where they are stopped very suddenly by the density of the metal of the anode. They react immediately by (1) losing speed, and (2) converting the forward motion to energy, which results in heat and x-rays (99% heat and 1% x-rays).
اسلاید 5: 5Two common interactions take place:In bremsstrahlung interactions the incoming electron avoids hitting a tungsten electron but travels very close to its nucleus. In doing this it is redirected into a different path and loses some energy, which is emitted as an x-ray photon. The name comes from the term for “braking,” as in losing speed rapidly.
